"I think Unifrog has made our students more ambitious. It helps them to see the vast array of courses that are out there, and helps them to push themselves harder, as they aim for their more aspirational choices.”

Sarah Cooper, Assistant Head of Sixth Form

Searching

“Before we got Unifrog most students just used the UCAS website for searches, which they found pretty confusing. The UCAS search tool brings up all the courses at a particular university, rather than all the courses that might be of interest to students across different universities.

Unifrog’s search tool is far more user friendly than anything we’ve used before - one of the smart aspects of it is the way that is categorises each course as aspirational, solid or safe for any given student.

It even suggests other options, to encourage students to consider alternatives that might suit them even better, or be easier to get in for. For example if they type in that they want to do Economics, Unifrog comes up with loads of different courses that they could also consider - ‘Economics with French’ or ‘Social and Political Sciences’. It really opens their eyes to the options that are out there.

While providing this variety, Unifrog also helps students to keep focused on their goals. The filters, such as ‘courses with study abroad’ for example, are really helpful, as they allow students to narrow down what they want out of a university.

Competencies

“The competencies tool enables students to build up as they go along a database of examples of them demonstrating key skills. The tool is particularly good at encouraging them to record specific examples of things they’ve actually done - in the past this has been a challenge with students not able to think up decent examples.

After using the competencies tool, when the students start their Personal Statements, they’re not just starting with a blank sheet of paper. It makes the task a lot less daunting. The competencies tool also encourages students to actually do things which might develop key skills, because they don’t want to have an empty box for ‘Leadership’, for example!”

Structuring the year

“Thanks to Unifrog we are able to get the students started much earlier in the process of shortlisting courses. Both students and staff feel more prepared.

In addition Unifrog allows form tutors and me, as Assistant Head of Sixth Form, to track what the students are doing. Tutors can see what students have done, and intervene if they are lagging behind in any part of the process. Even parents can be involved if they want.

Customer service

“Unifrog customer service has been absolutely superb. There’s always somebody on the end of an email or a phone. The responses are always very swift.

The training days have been brilliant. Tom has come in and done introductory seminars with students and given training to our staff. He recently did a session with the year 12s, and it was really helpful, as he was able to relate to them so well.

I would very much encourage all schools to make the most out of the Unifrog training days, which help to ensure that all the students and staff are on board!”
