Eggbuckland Community College

State school in South West UK

“A highlight for us has been the Placements tool. It’s become invaluable in managing Year 10 and 12 work experience, allowing the college to become almost paperless in this process.”

What do staff think?

“At the launch of work experience for Year 10 and 12, we introduce students to the tool, and from there, students are empowered to find their own placements with support from staff for ideas.

Then, after they’ve done their work experience, there’s an evaluation section on the Placements tool where students can reflect on how it all went and what they’ve learnt. The employer can give feedback on there as well, so the students feel really encouraged by that.” – Lynn Harris, Careers Coordinator.

What do students think?

“For my work experience, the Placements tool helped me write about what I enjoyed and how it’s grown my interest in forensic science. As my teachers could also see the tool, it meant they could include the details of my placement when writing my reference for uni if I couldn’t fit it into my personal statement.” – Abi, Year 13.

“For my placement, I did online medical work experience. The main thing I loved about the Placements tool was the student reflection form, as it enabled me to write notes about my work experience and evaluate it. That was really helpful when it came to my interviews, as it meant I could just look over my notes rather than trying to remember work experience that happened almost half a year ago.” – Lucy, Year 13.

What do local employers think?

“The Placements tool has a helpful tracking system to make sure everyone’s aware of how the experience is going to run. So it connects students to the employer contact who’s actually running the work experience, so they can ask any questions before the placement starts. It gives parents the opportunity to see the work experience programme content and who the employer will be. And they can also see that all the correct support and guidance will be in place for the placement.” – Drew Tombs, Group Sales & Marketing Manager at The Focus Training Group.

What do parents think?

“Parents are really keen for their children to experience the workplace. So they’ve embraced Unifrog, which offers all the support they need to fulfil their requirements as part of the placements process.”– Lynn Harris, Careers Coordinator.
