What makes a good employer profile?
23rd June 2023
As a Unifrog employer partner, you’ll share your message and opportunities with over 3,500 schools and colleges around the world. A key part of the partnership is an employer profile – your chance to ‘lift the lid’ on what working for your company is really like. Here, we’ll cover what makes employer profiles so useful to young people around the world.
What is an employer profile?
An employer profile is a video and written guide showing students around the world what it’s really like to work for your company.
All our employer partners can access this opportunity, and we’ll work closely with you to make your profile stand out!
Students can access all employer profiles via Unifrog’s Know-how library, a collection of hundreds of guides to support their applications and preparation for post-school and college life.
Your employer profile is made up of:
- a video
- a written guide with images throughout
- a table of key facts, including some of your less typical roles
Four tips for a great employer profile
1. Make an impact with your video
A strong employer profile starts with a strong video. We work with you to create a script, and you’ll choose your presenter. It should be someone who comes across as confident, friendly, and engaging on camera.
‘Choosing a presenter who brings lots of energy and charisma really makes a video shine. But they’re just one of several people who can make a difference. If we’re filming b-roll – that’s the footage of the workplace or work activities that appears alongside the interview – it’s great when we have volunteers we can film who really exemplify the atmosphere of the company.
And of course, having someone who is super organised in collaborating with us on logistics well in advance of a shoot helps make everything go smoothly!’

2. Share your fun facts
Lots of students know that the Met Office, for example, employs people who work in weather-related sciences, like meteorologists. But they probably don’t know that they work with NASA, and that their projects reach as far as space!
When preparing your profile, talk to different people at your company to find out what projects they’re working on. You might be surprised at some of the exciting things some other divisions of your company are up to.
3. Don’t just use what’s already online
Your profile should ‘lift the lid’ on what working at your company is really like. This means it should include things that students can’t find out just by doing an online search.
One way to tackle this is to get quotes from different people at your company on things like what they love about the office working environment, or an interesting pathway they took to get in.
Pro tip: don’t lift text directly from your website! Most employer websites aren’t aimed at recruiting only young people, so the language can be very professional and use terms young people might not be familiar with. Get the key facts – then make it student-friendly.
4. Choose your images carefully
What does working at your company actually look like? Students are likely to see generic stock images of people ‘at work’ on recruitment websites – what they really want to see is what your work genuinely involves. Choose images of real employees working on real tasks, and in a range of different settings.
Pro tip: think carefully about the stereotype of someone who works for your company, and actively challenge it. Choose images of a diverse range of employees, so students of all ethnicities, genders, sexualities, and those with disabilities know that their applications will be welcomed.
