Unifrog brings over 60 Manchester students to Global Offshore Wind 2024
5th September 2024
At Unifrog, our mission is to level the playing field for young people deciding on their next steps after school, by providing them with opportunities to explore and engage with potential career paths.
One way we’re working towards this goal is by connecting students with employers and giving them experiences of the workplace. At the end of June, we supported over 60 students from local Manchester schools to attend Global Offshore Wind 2024, an event organised by Unifrog employer partner RenewableUK.
The students, ranging from ages 14 to 18, heard from various industry leaders, and took part in a workshop which gave them a firsthand look at the opportunities available in offshore wind, a rapidly expanding sector.
Feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive, with every student in attendance rating their experience at least 8 out of 10! The response makes it clear that events like this play a significant role in sparking interest and excitement about STEM careers among young people.
Our work with RenewableUK
Throughout the course of our partnership with RenewableUK, we’ve worked together to provide several opportunities for young people to discover and learn more about the offshore wind industry.
Offshore wind course
‘An Introduction to Offshore Wind’ is a comprehensive Unifrog course for students aged 16-18, offering them an introduction to the industry, and equipping them with essential skills and knowledge about the roles available to them in the sector. Only a few months since launch, 220+ students have joined the course.
Career videos
We’ve created six career library videos featuring professionals in renewable energy jobs, covering roles such as Geologist, Marine Engineer, and Sustainability Analyst. These videos allow young people to expand their understanding of the offshore wind industry, helping them picture themselves in various roles.
For instance, students can use this video to understand exactly what a sustainability analyst does on a day-to-day basis, and how sustainability analysts are helping to have a huge positive impact on our environment.
Know-how library guide
Our Know-how library guide: ‘Get on the ladder: renewable energy’, developed in partnership with RenewableUK, outlines pathways and careers in renewable energy, providing students with a clear roadmap to enter this exciting field.
Global Offshore Wind events
As well as this year’s Global Offshore Wind event, we’ve supported students to attend other Global Offshore Wind events across the UK, allowing over 150 young people to meet apprentices, graduates, and industry professionals in hands-on career workshops.
Looking ahead
At Unifrog, we are so proud of the impact that we, alongside our partners, have on young people. By providing access to real-world industry experiences and resources, we’re helping to inspire the next generation of renewable energy professionals! We look forward to continuing our partnership with RenewableUK and our efforts to empower students to pursue careers that make a difference.
