Making global connections: Unifrog’s first speed networking event for counselors and HE
23rd August 2023
This summer, Unifrog hosted its first ever speed networking event for counselors and universities around the world. Here’s what happened…
Why networking?
Teachers and counselors rarely get the opportunity to speak directly with international universities on behalf of their students. The more they know about universities around the world, the better equipped they are to advise their students on making successful applications.
To help make these worldwide connections and conversations possible, we set up our first virtual speed networking event, giving our counselors in the Middle East the chance to ask our international HE partners their burning questions.
Some of the topics discussed included:
- what kind of student tends to succeed at this university
- what makes a strong application to this university
- upcoming visits to each other’s countries, so opportunities to deliver talks and events for students could be booked in
How did it work?
30 Unifrog schools across the Middle East met with 30 representatives from our HE partners around the world. University attendees included:
- The University of Hong Kong
- The University of the West of England (UWE)
- The University of Tasmania, Australia
- Leiden University, The Netherlands
- The University of Guelph, Canada
After booking in, attendees had the chance to check out the profiles of representatives from respective schools and universities. They could then send invites to those they wanted to connect with and book in a 15-minute slot using a smart online booking system.
What did attendees think?
What’s coming next?
We’re planning at least three more speed networking events across the 2023-24 academic year, so our schools in other parts of the world, like Asia and Europe–as well as our many schools in the Middle East who’ve said they want to come back!–can also benefit from connections with HE around the world.
