Introducing Unifrog themed weeks
5th September 2019
Here at Unifrog HQ, we’ve been busy putting together a programme of themed weeks which we hope you’re going to be as excited about as we are!
What are themed weeks?
Drawing on the findings from our recent Horizons report and from speaking to teachers and careers counselors at partner schools, we’ve chosen six important issues surrounding careers education that matter to you. We’ve created themed weeks, with everything you need to know about these topics – from teaching resources to conferences and inter-school competitions.
For example, our opening Study Abroad Week (14-18 October) came from our report’s finding that 37% of students are thinking about studying abroad for their first degree. We’d also had a number of teachers get in touch to ask for more support on helping students applying to the US. As a result, we’ll be providing everything you need to run Study Abroad Week in your own school and hosting a Study Abroad conference for teachers to take a closer look at the complexities of the US applications system.
What will I get out of them?
First off, we’ll save you time on your lesson planning! For each themed week, we’ve put together a resource pack containing everything you’ll need—interactive teaching materials and accompanying Know-how, subject, and careers guides—to help you deliver exceptional tailored lessons.
Just as importantly, you may not know but you’re part of a worldwide community of over 2,000 Unifrog partner schools – and we’re keen for you to get to know each other better! As part of this year’s programme, we’ll be hosting five conferences in the UK and around the world where you can meet teachers from other partner schools in your area and hear from expert speakers sharing advice to help you give your students the best possible support.
And what’s in it for the students?
We’ll be running inter-school competitions to allow your students to compete against other students in Unifrog schools around the world. There’ll even be prizes on offer!
Last year, we ran a Skills & Enterprise Week competition and it was incredible to see so many innovative entries. We’re looking forward to seeing if anyone can knock the winners from the top spot this time round. The teams to beat are Dame Allan's School’s Year 12s in the UK who won an Education Pack from Tech Will Save Us:
And the international winners were Dubai Scholars School’s Year 9s who won vouchers to buy books and educational resources:
How do I get involved?
We’ve created the Themed weeks programme to make sure it’s relevant to all teachers and careers counselors and can be taught to all students aged 11-18, in schools all around the world.
We’ll be sharing the resources that week in the Unifrog Gazette (to subscribe, log in to Unifrog and go to Settings or scroll to the bottom of the Teacher home page) and on our Twitter page and Facebook group.
If you’re keen to take part in the competitions, register your interest and we’ll send you the materials as soon as they become available.
When are they?
The downloadable programme has the dates of all the themed weeks and conferences and more information about each one.
The first one, Study Abroad Week, is coming up soon from 14-18 October and you can book your place at the Study Abroad Conference in London on Thursday 17 October now.
