Case study: using Unifrog for reference writing
31st May 2020
We spoke to Gordon Neighbour, Head of Careers and Subject Lead for Geology and Computing & IT at Torquay Girls' Grammar School, for his advice for other schools using Unifrog for reference writing.
How has Unifrog helped you to streamline the reference writing process?
Unifrog has allowed us to put all of the information in one place for both students and staff. This is a real bonus in monitoring and managing progress, as the tools in the software allow us to see how things are progressing.
Has it helped you cut down the time spent on reference writing?
Yes, for tutors especially being able to import the subject references makes such a difference, and those minutes saved are a real bonus!
What has been most useful to teaching staff when writing references?
Staff being able to see the recommendations that students have suggested for their references allows Reference writers to see what’s important to the students. Again, this information is so useful in making unique and high quality references.
And what has been most useful from a reference writing management perspective?
Being able to use the filter tools to see the progress made by subject teachers and tutors, with the traffic lighting system, is fantastic!
What are your three top tips for other schools when it comes to reference writing?
- Plan early.
- Make use of all the functionality of Unifrog.
- Encourage use of the Activities and Skills tools to help enhance what is written.
