Law taster: murder for necessity

Law taster: murder for necessity
For students

Join the University of Manchester for a law taster designed to help you explore conflicts between the law, survival and morality. Dudley and Stephens murdered a fellow seaman (Parker) in order to save themselves from starvation whilst stranded at sea in 1884. They were found guilty of murder. In this webinar we will explore this historic case, and consider whether taking an innocent life to save your own justifies committing murder, even if it is under the extreme necessity of hunger.
