Latymer Upper School
Independent school in London
"The ability to filter university searches by particular things such as 'sportiness' and the 'distance from their home' makes the comparisons really finely graded. Other course search tools just don't offer this level of detail.”
Rachel Collier, Assistant Head (Head of Sixth Form)
Everything in one place
“Before Unifrog we would direct students to places such as ‘Which University’, ‘UCAS’ and ‘Heap online’. For References we had our own online system and for Personal Statements students would just email word documents to us to edit. So there was a real mixture of things going on. Unifrog draws all those processes together into one platform. With the Unifrog tool, everything is in one place and can be edited by the tutors and managed by me.”
Teacher overview
“I think the ability for the form tutor to have a really clear overview of where their students are at in their university research is really helpful. The results of students’ searches are immediately emailed to their tutor which makes monitoring their shortlisting progress really easy. Tutors can follow their students’ latest thinking.”
Tailored subject references
“One very specific challenge we had before Unifrog was that when teachers were writing their subject references they didn't necessarily know what subject a student was applying for. Now, with the Unifrog tool, subject teachers can see what the student’s searches are, so they know what area the student is interested in. That makes for references that are more relevant and geared towards the subjects that the students are applying for. Ultimately this makes it more likely that students’ applications will be successful.”
Efficient Overall References
“Unifrog helps form tutors to easily collate Subject References into a coherent Overall Reference. With the click of a button it will sort all the different Subject References and our standard introductory paragraph into one sequenced piece of text, and tutors can then just get on with editing it. Before Unifrog they would have had to juggle lots of separate bits of text coming in from different people, and it was a bit of a nightmare.
I also like how Unifrog keeps all the version histories of each Subject Reference and Overall Reference. Before Unifrog, the person who did the final check of the application would have to edit the tutor’s reference with track changes and send it back. Now, all the revisions of the reference are saved for ever, and they’re saved in one place, making it easier for everyone involved.”
Course comparisons
“The UK university course comparison tool is really powerful. The ability to filter university searches by particular things such as 'sportiness' and the 'distance from their home' makes the comparisons really finely graded. Other course search tools just don't offer this level of detail.”
Parents
“At our higher education launch we offered a drop-in Unifrog session for parents. A number have signed up and have done some searches themselves. This is particularly useful for students who are less motivated - knowing that their parents are clued up and can support them.”
Customer service
“We’ve really enjoyed our association with Unifrog; they've been so kind. The customer service is absolutely fantastic. Nick has given up so much of his time to come and hold our hand as much as we need him to. He came in repeatedly to talk to small groups of us when we were looking to sign up. He has delivered several training sessions for tutors on how to get students in, and for all teaching staff on how to enter Subject References. I would advise other schools to make sure that all staff are on board and understand the tool as well as the students - the tool is very intuitive to use, but also take advantage of Unifrog’s willingness to train you up!”
